Description

Built in 1889 by W.N. Chamblin as a warehouse and sales facility for Hay and Grain, this building is one of the oldest structures in Historic Downtown Redlands and one of the most iconic buildings remaining from Redlands past. Edward M. Cope, local businessman and philanthropist owned and operated Graham-Cope Commercial Company in the building from 1899 to 1923. They operated a grain warehouse and barley mill. Mr. Cope sold the building in 1943 to Otto and Sue Knudsen who were in thetrucking, moving, storage and the Yucaipa Valley Fruit Company. Knudsen sold the building to John and Alma Grigsby in 1958. In 1986 Victoria and Michael Hargrave purchased Grigsby Bros.
business and operated as Grigsby Garden Center. In 1988 the Hargrave’s purchase the property. The nursery was open from 1988 until 1997. They then transformed the asset to a skate park from 1997 until 2003. The current owner purchased the property in 2002. Over the last 15 years they have completed extensive renovations to the buildings and grounds being mindful of the incredible history that is enveloped by this property.
