The Arcadia Buildings are two gems located in vibrant downtown Kalamazoo. The north building, commonly known as the Arcadia North Building, was built in 1992 by First of America Bank, whom is now PNC Bank. The south building, commonly known as Arcadia Lofts/Ironworks, was built in 1872 and housed Lawrence & Chapin Iron Works, then Vermeulan’s Furniture Company. Connected via a raised covered walkway, these two buildings are split by the Arcadia Creek, the focus of the 1989 Arcadia Creek Redevelopment Project which opened the creek as a water feature. The project included the downtown campus of Kalamazoo Valley Community College, the expanded Kalamazoo Valley Museum, and a new parking structure. When the north building was constructed, it reflected the architecture of the original structure with a brick façade, expansive windows, and classic proportions. Current configuration provides a combination of executive offices, open space, and conference rooms.
