In 2026 Houston will be hosting the FIFA World Cup 26 and will host (7) seven games at the biggest-ever World Cup, including two matches in the knockout phase which are scheduled to be held at Houston Stadium | NRG Stadium.
 
Customers and fans who are in the downtown area for the World Cup will be able to catch the light rail out to NRG from right in front of  312 Main Street at the Preston Light Rail Station, to see all of the World Cup Games and then after the game is over, they can walk right back outside and hop back on the light rail again to return downtown. This makes it very convenient for people and groups that are staying in hotels downtown to ride the rail both to and from a game at NRG and get dropped off at the very same place, without having to worry about getting an Uber ride or having to deal with traffic in order to park out at NRG. Riding the rail is a very simple and convenient way of going to see a game or to attend one of the many other events held thru the year at NRG. 

(The World Cup games are being held at NRG and not at Shell Energy Stadium where the Houston Dynamo soccer team plays.)
 
The METRORail Red line extends for 12.8 miles and it connects the downtown area with UH Downtown, The Texas Medical Center, and NRG, as well as to other parts of the city including UH  & TSU Main Campuses. Riders are able to purchase tickets and board the light rail at the Preston Light Rail Station that is conveniently located right outside the front door of 312 Main. The light rail provides transportation both to and from NRG Stadium (Houston Stadium) which is the home of the Texans NFL football team and the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo.  The Preston Light Rail Station also provides transportation to and from Shell Energy Stadium which is the home of Houston Dynamo FC, the Houston Dash and Texas Southern University football. 
 
Also, in 2028 Houston will be hosting the Republican National Convention.
